The Munising Bay Car Show began in 2013 as a grassroots effort by Gary Bovan and Tom Condon to give car owners one last chance to show off their rides before winter—and to support veterans in the process. For Bovan, whose brother Paul was killed in Vietnam, the cause is personal. With help from local veteran leaders like Dan LaCombe of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 237, the event has grown into a beloved two-day celebration featuring classic cars, a scenic cruise along Hurricane Highway, music, food vendors, and meaningful tributes like LaCombe’s Honor Flight dedication to Bovan’s brother. Drawing participants from across Michigan, Wisconsin, and as far as Canada and the Southwest, the show continues to thrive thanks to dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and community support. Awards are chosen by car owners, the Munising mayor, and veterans themselves, making it a heartfelt tribute to heritage, horsepower, and service.
